Trusting in Riches and Falling - Proverbs 11:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that diligently seeks good procures favor: but he that seeks mischief, it shall come unto him”, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that trusts in his riches shall fall” where we read,

He that trusts in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

The verse begins, He that trusts in his riches shall fall: Solomon began with the words, “he that trusts” or “he, the person whether male or female, who feels safe, is secure, has faith and is confident” in his riches which means “within his, the person's, wealth” “shall fall” or “will lie down, be cast down and be prostrated”. Solomon shared how the person who has faith and confidence within their wealth will indeed be cast down.

The verse continues, “but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.” Solomon added the words, “but the righteous” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person who is right, just, correct and lawful” “shall flourish” which means “will break out, spring forth and blossom abundantly” “as a branch” or “similar and in likeness to leafage or foliage”. Solomon said people who are right, just, lawful and correct will spring forth similar to leafage or foliage on a plant.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the stability and security of wealth only leads a person to being cast down. “Riches” are temporary and may take up wings and fly away. (See Proverbs 23:5) Contrarily people who trust in and rely upon the righteousness of Jehovah God will blossom abundantly. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins so we may live with Him forever. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to be “righteous” so we may “flourish” like the branches upon a tree.

Next time Solomon says, “he that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
