A Man Not Established by Wickedness - Proverbs 12:3

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A good man obtains favor of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn”, and in chapter twelve and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “a man shall not be established by wickedness” where we read,

A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

The verse begins, A man shall not be established by wickedness: Solomon began with the words, “a man shall not be established” or “a person whether male or female will in no way exist as made firm, fixed, securely determined and steadfast” by wickedness which means “through the means of violence, crime and iniquity”. Solomon said people who commit crimes and are violent will in no way be fixed and made steadfast by them.

The verse goes on to say, “but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the root” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the bottom or lowest stratum” “of the righteous” which means “belonging to people who are right, just, lawful and correct” “shall not be moved” or “will in no way totter, shake, slip or be overthrown or dislodged”. Solomon said the bottom stratum or foundation belonging to people who are just, right and lawful shall in no way totter or be shaken.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we see how being violent and evil does not give a person a firm foundation upon which to stand, however, the bottom stratum of the person who acts in a just and lawful manner will not totter or sway. God wants to be our firm foundation, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind for this to be possible. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a firm foundation of righteousness that shall remain for all eternity.

Next time Solomon says, “a virtuous woman is a crown to her husband”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
