In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked”, and in chapter ten and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “the memory of the just is blessed” where we read,
The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
The verse begins, “the memory of the just is blessed:” Solomon began with the words, “the memory” or “the remembrance, memorial and commemoration” “of the just” which means “belonging to people who are lawful, correct and righteous” “is blessed” or “exists as prosperous, gifted and benefited”. Solomon shared how the remembrance of people who are lawful and righteous exists as prosperous and gifted.
The verse goes on to say, “but the name of the wicked shall rot.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the name” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the reputation, fame and glory” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “shall rot” or “will decay as by eaten by worms”. Solomon said the fame, reputation and glory of people who are criminal and hostile to God will decay as though eaten by worms.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we discover the difference between a “just” person and a “wicked” one. The memorial and commemoration of people who are righteous and lawful shall be remembered, however, the reputation of people who are evil will decay. God wants us to be righteous, and because we have sin in our lives, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for our errors and wrongs. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us by His Holy Spirit to live in a righteous and just manner before His eyes.
Next time Solomon says, “the wise in heart will receive commandments”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
