In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit”, and in chapter twelve and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “the words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood” where we read,
The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood:
but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
The verse begins, “The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood:” Solomon began with the words, “the words of the wicked” or “the speeches, utterances and sayings belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God” “are to lie in wait” which means “exist to lurk or ambush” “for blood” or “on behalf of bloodshed”. Solomon shared how the utterances and sayings of people who are evil and hostile to God exist to carry out bloodshed.
The verse continues, “but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.” Solomon added the words, “but the mouth” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the upright” which means “belonging to people who are straight, correct, pleasing and right” “shall deliver them” or “will rescue, save, preserve and recover them, the upright”. Solomon said the orifice in the faces used for speaking of people who are pleasing and right will preserve and save them.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn the difference between the “words and sayings” of people who are “wicked” versus people who are “upright”. “Wicked” people use their utterances to cause bloodshed, however, “upright” people employ their sayings in such a way that saves them. God gave us His “words”, the Bible, and in His “words” we discover that He loves us and provided forgiveness of our sins and eternal life when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. God wants to keep us away from speaking “wickedly” and help us to employ our mouths for salvation. (See Romans 10:9-10)
Next time Solomon says, “the wicked are overthrown, and are not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
