The Fear of the Wicked - Proverbs 10:24

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding has wisdom”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “the fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him” where we read,

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

The verse begins, “The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: Solomon began with the words, “the fear of the wicked” or “the terror and fright belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes and hostile to God”, it shall come upon him which means “it, the terror and fright, will enter, go in and fall on him, the wicked person”. Solomon shared how the terror and fright caused by people who are evil and hostile to God will enter and return unto them. (See Galatians 6:7)

The verse goes on to say, “but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the desire” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the wish, appetite, lust and covetousness” “of the righteous” which means “belonging to the just, right, lawful and correct” “shall be granted” or “will exist as set up, appointed, recompensed and delivered”. Solomon said the wish and appetite of people who are just and lawful will be recompensed and appointed.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the terrorizing caused by “wicked” people will be reciprocated upon them, and in contrast, the people who are lawful and correct will have their wish and appetite fulfilled. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause us to be separated from the “terror and fright” of “wicked” people and to have His passion for that which is just and lawful so our “desires” will be fulfilled.

Next time Solomon says, “as the whirlwind passes, so is the wicked no more”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
