In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them”, and in chapter twelve and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “the wicked are overthrown, and are not” where we read,
The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
The verse begins, “The wicked are overthrown, and are not:” Solomon began with the words, “the wicked” or “the people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “are overthrown” which means “exist as overturned, returned, changed and reversed”, “and are not” or “and exist as nothing”. Solomon shared how people who are evil and hostile to God are reversed in their actions and become as nothing.
The verse continues, “but the house of the righteous shall stand.” Solomon added the words, “but the house” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the dwelling place, abode and household” “of the righteous” which means “belonging to people who are just, right, lawful and correct” “shall stand” or “will remain, endure, persist and be steadfast”. Solomon said the dwelling place and families of people who are lawful and correct will remain and be steadfast.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a difference in the longevity of people who are “evil” and those who are “just”. People who continually commit wicked deeds will eventually be cut off, but those who practice righteousness will continue forever. God wants every person to be within the “righteous” group, and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind to make that possible. When we receive Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be “righteous” by His Holy Spirit so we will live and remain with Him forever.
Next time Solomon says, “a man shall be commended according to his wisdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
