The Wicked Working Deceit - Proverbs 11:18

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The merciful man does good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubles his own flesh”, and in chapter eleven and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the wicked works a deceitful work” where we read,

The wicked works a deceitful work: but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.

The verse begins, The wicked works a deceitful work: Solomon began with the words, “the wicked” or “the people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” works a deceitful work which means “fashions, accomplishes, makes and produces a deceptive, wrong, false and vain reward, wage, recompense or labor”. Solomon shared how people who are criminal and hostile to God perform deceptive and vain acts and deeds.

The verse goes on to say, “but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.” Solomon continued with the words, “but to him that sows righteousness” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover toward the person whether male or female who scatters yielding seeds of rightness, justice, truthfulness and salvation” “shall be a sure reward” which means “will exist as a firm, faithful, truthful and reliable wage or hire”. Solomon said the person who scatters seeds of rightness and justice will receive a truthful and reliable wage.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how “wages or rewards” will be received by both the “wicked” and those who spread seeds of “righteousness”. “Wicked” people produce deceptive acts and deeds, and “righteous” people scatter justice and rightness wherever they go, and each of them shall be recompensed for their ways. God wants us to be saved from our “wicked” sin and to live in a right manner according to His ways. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause us to receive a truthful and righteous “reward” for sharing Him with others.

Next time Solomon says, “as righteousness tends to life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
