In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaks frowardness”, and in chapter eleven and verse one of Proverbs Solomon said, “a false balance is abomination to the LORD” where we read,
A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
The verse begins, “A false balance is abomination to the LORD:” Solomon began with the words, “a false balance” or “a deceitful, guile filled, subtle and treacherous scale” “is abomination” which means “is disgusting, abhorrent and idolatrous” “to the LORD” or “to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon shared how a deceitful scale is abhorrent and disgusting to Jehovah God.
The verse continues, “but a just weight is his delight.” Solomon added the words, “but a just weight” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a right, correct, perfect and complete precious stone or marble” “is his delight” which means “exists as his, Jehovah God's, pleasure, favor and desire”. Solomon said a precious stone used for measuring exist as Jehovah God's pleasure and desire.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how God is aware of when people use inaccurate measuring devises in commerce. The idea is that we are to be honest and not to cheat and steal from one another. People who used false and inaccurate “weights” to take advantage of others is not only known by Jehovah God, but He disapproves of them. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to gain His favor and not displeasure by being “just and right” in our units of measure.
Next time Solomon says, “when pride comes, then comes shame”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
