The Glad Hope of the Righteous - Proverbs 10:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The fear of the LORD prolongs days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “the hope of the righteous shall be gladness” where we read,

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

The verse begins, “The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: Solomon began with the words, “the hope of the righteous” or “the expectation belonging to people who are right, just, lawful and correct” shall be gladness which means “will exist as joy, mirth, glad result and happy issue”. Solomon shared how the expectation for people who are lawful and correct exists as joyful and happy.

The verse goes on to say, “but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the expectation” or “however, notwithstanding, nevertheless and moreover the cord, ground of hope and outcome” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God” “shall perish” or “will vanish, go astray and be destroyed”. Solomon said the hope and outcome of people who are evil and hostile to God will be destruction and vanishing.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how there will be a joyful outcome for people who are lawful and correct, however, the hope and outcome of people who are evil and malicious is destruction. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be in expectation of joy as we live in a just and right manner before Him.

Next time Solomon said, “the way of the LORD is strength to the upright”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
