In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covers the mouth of the wicked”, and in chapter ten and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “hatred stirs up strifes” where we read,
Hatred stirs up strifes: but love covers all sins.
The verse begins, “Hatred stirs up strifes:” Solomon began with the word, “hatred” or “exceeding detestation and hate” “stirs up strifes” which means “rouses, stirs, awakes and incites contention and discord”. Solomon said exceeding detestation rouses up contention and discord.
The verse continues, “but love covers all sins.” Solomon added the words, “but love” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover absolute affection and passion” “covers all sins” which means “conceals and hides each, every, the whole and everyone of the errors, wrongs, missing of the marks and transgressions”. Solomon said absolute affection conceals and hides every error and wrong.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Solomon contrasted the inciting of contention caused by absolute detestation with affection that conceals errors and wrong. God wants us to be like Him, and He is willing to forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to keep from “hateful” behavior that leads to discord and to have affection that conceals the errors and wrongs of others like He does.
Next time Solomon says, “in the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
