In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “In the multitude of words there wants not sin: but he that refrains his lips is wise”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “the tongue of the just is as choice silver” where we read,
The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
The verse begins, “The tongue of the just is as choice silver:” Solomon began with the words, “the tongue” or “the wedge within the mouth used for tasting, speaking and talking” “of the just” which means “belonging to people who are righteous, correct and lawful” “is as choice silver” or “exists similar and in likeness to chosen, selected and excellent silver metal”. Solomon said the “tongue” used for speaking by people who are righteous and lawful exists similar to chosen and selected silver metal.
The verse continues, “the heart of the wicked is little worth.” Solomon added the words, “the heart” or “the soul, mind, will, desires, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “is little worth” or “exists as few, small and light in value”. Solomon said the soul, mind and will of evil people has a very small value.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the words of people who are lawful are like excellent chosen silver metal, however, the soul and mind of people who are evil has a small value. God wants us to have “hearts” that are like His, and because we are prone to sin, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of having “tongues” that are like “chosen silver” in His Kingdom.
Next time Solomon says, “the lips of the righteous feed many”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
