In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knows nothing”, and in chapter nine and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon said the foolish woman, “sits in the door of her house” where we read,
For she sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,
The verse begins, “For she sits at the door of her house, ...” Solomon began with the words, “for she sits” or “because, since and on account that she, the foolish woman, is seated, fixed and established” “at the door” which means “at the opening, entrance or gate” “of her house” or “belonging to her, the foolish woman's, dwelling place, habitation and abode”. Solomon shared how the “foolish woman” is seated within the opening to her dwelling place.
The verse continues, “... on a seat in the high places of the city, ...” Solomon added the words, “on a seat” or “upon a stool, seat of honor or throne” “in the high places” which means “within the height and elevated place” “of the city” or “belonging to the town”. Solomon said the “foolish woman” is seated upon a stool or throne located within the elevated place within the town.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the “foolish woman” is seated openly within the doorway of her home that sits in an elevated place in the town. In other words, she makes herself openly known. This is the nature of sin. Paul the apostle wrote, “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23) This is the reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be aware of the “foolish woman” and anyone else who desires to persuade us to violate the ways of God.
Next time Solomon says the foolish woman sits, “to call passengers who go right on their ways”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
