In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting”, and in chapter eleven and verse eleven of Proverbs Solomon said, “by the blessing of the upright the city is exalted” where we read,
By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
The verse begins, “By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted:” Solomon began with the words, “by the blessing” or “ through the means of prosperity, treaty of peace and praise” “of the upright” which means “belonging to people who are straight, correct, right and pleasing”, “the city is exalted” or “the town, village or dwelling place exists as set on high, lofty and extolled”. Solomon shared how a town or village is set on high when people who are straight, correct, prosperous and filled with peace are within it.
The verse continues, “but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.” Solomon added the words, “but it is overthrown” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover it, the city, exists as torn down, broken thru, ruined and utterly destroyed” “by the mouth” which means “the the means of the orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “of the wicked” or “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God”. Solomon said a town or village of people is broken down and ruined by the “mouths” of people who are evil and hostile to God.
When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how a city, town or village is lifted up or torn down. When people who are just and right are prosperous and have peace, their companions have them as well. However, if people who are wicked use their voices, that same dwelling place will be ruined and destroyed. God's desire is for all of us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with “blessing” and not “wickedness”. This happens when we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, and when we yield ourselves to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us enjoy living within our dwelling place and with Him for all eternity.
Next time Solomon says, “he that is void of wisdom despises his neighbor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
