In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The wicked works a deceitful work: but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward”, and in chapter eleven and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “as righteousness tends to life” where we read,
As righteousness tends to life: so he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death.
The verse begins, “As righteousness tends to life:” Solomon began with the words, “As righteousness” or “in a similar likeness that justice, rightness, truthfulness and correctness” “tends to life” which means “leads and guides toward fresh, active and lively living”. Solomon referred to how right, just and truthful living leads a person to a “life” that is active and fresh.
The verse continues, “so he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death.” Solomon added the words, “so he that pursues evil” or “even and indeed he, the person whether male or female, who follows after, aims to secure and runs toward wickedness, adversity, trouble and affliction” “pursues it” which means “follows after, aims to secure and runs after wickedness, adversity, trouble and affliction” “to his own death” or “toward the person's own personal pestilence, ruin and dying state”. Solomon said in the same manner that “righteousness leads a person to truthful living”, so does the person who follows after wickedness lead themselves toward their own personal state of dying.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how a person living a life of justice and truthfulness receives the consequences of truthful and lively living, whereas the person who is aiming to secure wickedness does so to their own demise. God knows “the wages of sin is death” (See Romans 6:23a), and He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay the wages of sin for all people -(“the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”) (See Romans 6:23b). When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us living in a righteous manner and separated from the consequences for pursuing “wickedness”.
Next time Solomon says, “they that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
