In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom”, and in chapter eleven and verse three of Proverbs Solomon said, “the integrity of the upright shall guide them” where we read,
The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
The verse begins, “The integrity of the upright shall guide them:” Solomon began with the words, “the integrity” or “the innocence” “of the upright” which means “belonging to people who are straight, right, correct and pleasing” “shall guide them” or “will lead or govern over them, the upright”. Solomon shared how the innocence of people who are right and correct will direct and govern over them.
The verse continues, “but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.” Solomon added the words, “but the perverseness” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the crookedness, viciousness and distortion” “of transgressors” which means “belonging to people who are deceitful, treacherous, faithless and offensive” “shall destroy them” or “will despoil, assail, utterly ruin and deal violently with them, transgressors”. Solomon said the crooked and vicious behavior performed by deceitful and treacherous people would ruin and despoil them.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the behavior of people who are just and right will be reciprocated to them, and crookedness and distortion will be the destructive force that comes upon people who are vicious and deceitful. God wants to keep us away from these consequences, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for all our sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the consequences that come from “perverseness” and bless us for our “innocence”.
Next time Solomon says, “riches profit not in the day of wrath”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
