Causing Sorrow with a Wink of the Eye - Proverbs 10:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that walks uprightly walks surely: but he that perverts his ways shall be known”, and in chapter ten and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that winks with the eye causes sorrow” where we read,

He that winks with the eye causes sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

The verse begins, “He that winks with the eye causes sorrow: Solomon began with the words, “he that winks with the eye” or “he, the person whether male or female, who narrows, pinches and squeezes the eyelids to their physical eye” causes sorrow which means “gives, bestows, grants, ascribes and consecrates pain, hurt, injury and a wound”. Solomon shared how the person who bats their physical eye at wrong and maliciousness forms a basis for pain and injury.

The verse continues, “but a prating fool shall fall.” Solomon added the words, “but a prating fool” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a licentious, mocking and quarrelsome person whether male or female who despises wisdom” “shall fall” which means “will be thrust away, cast aside and thrown down”. Solomon said a person who is mocking and quarrelsome will be cast aside and thrown down.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how a person who uses the “wink” of their physical eye to ignore or disregard evil will be the source of pain and injury to themselves and others, and a mocking and quarrelsome person will be cast aside. God wants us to regard situations and circumstances in keeping with His way of life, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so this would be possible. When we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to see “evil” in the manner He does and keep away from the manner of the “prating fool”.

Next time Solomon says, “the mouth of a righteous man is a well of life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
