Good Man Obtaining God's Favor - Proverbs 12:2

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Whosoever loves instruction loves knowledge: but he that hates reproof is brutish”, and in chapter twelve and verse two of Proverbs Solomon said, “a good man obtains favor of the LORD” where we read,

A good man obtains favor of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

The verse begins, A good man obtains favor of the LORD: Solomon began with the words, “a good man” or “a pleasant, agreeable, excellent, rich, valuable and becoming person whether male or female” “obtains favor” which means “is issued, furnished and afforded pleasure, delight, goodwill and acceptance” of the LORD or “from Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon shared how the person who is pleasant and agreeable receives goodwill and acceptance from Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “but a man of wicked devices will he condemn. Solomon added the words, “but a man of wicked devices” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a person whether male or female who is criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God purposes, discretions and intents” “will he condemn” which means “shall he, Jehovah God, disturb, vex and violate”. Solomon said Jehovah God would disturb and vex the person who is criminal, evil and hostile to Him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that Jehovah God has two different responses to the manner in which people live. If they are pleasant and agreeable, Jehovah God will pour out His acceptance upon them, and if they are evil and hostile to Him, God will disturb and vex them. God wants to pour out His mercy and grace upon everyone regardless of how evil we are. He knows we sin, and the penalty for that sin is death. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) This is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us by His Holy Spirit to be “good” and receive His “favor” for all eternity.

Next time Solomon says, “a man shall not be established by wickedness”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
