The Righteous Shall Be Recompensed - Proverbs 11:31

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that wins souls is wise”, and in chapter eleven and verse thirty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “the righteous shall be recompensed” where we read,

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.

The verse begins, Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: Solomon began with the words, “behold, the righteous shall be recompensed” or “lo, look and consider, people who are right, just, lawful and correct will receive restitution, restoration, reward, good and a covenant of peace” in the earth which means “within the country, region, district and world”. Solomon instructed his readers and listeners to consider that people who are right, just and lawful will receive a covenant of peace and reward within the world.

The verse continues, “much more the wicked and the sinner.” Solomon added the words, “much more the wicked” or “to a greater and more abundant degree people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “and the sinner” which means “and people who miss the mark, go wrong, are guilty, condemned and in need of purification”. Solomon wanted his listeners and readers to consider to what a greater degree people who are evil, hostile to God, wrong and condemned will be punished for their behavior.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that people who act in a right and just manner will be rewarded by Jehovah God, however, people who are evil and hostile to God shall be punished for their pernicious behavior. God knows we are sinners, and we are in need of salvation from Him. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit how to be just and right so we may be “recompensed” for our “righteousness”.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon say, “whoever loves instruction loves knowledge”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
