In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner”, and in chapter twelve and verse one of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoever loves instruction loves knowledge” where we read,
Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge: but he that hates reproof is brutish.
The verse begins, “Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge:” Solomon began with the words, “whoever loves instruction” or “whatever person whether male or female who has affection, appetite and passion for discipline, chastening and correction” “loves knowledge” which means “has affection, appetite and passion for perceptions, skill, discernment and wisdom”. Solomon shared how the person who is passionate for discipline and correction also has affection for discernment and wisdom.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that hates reproof is brutish.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that hates reproof” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person who is odious to and acts as an enemy and foe to correction, punishment and chastisement” “is brutish” which means “exists as stupid and foolish”. Solomon said the person who is odious to correction and chastisement is unwise and stupid.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon that there is “wisdom” in loving correction and discipline, because if we are odious to chastening, we become foolish and unwise. God wants us to be wise, and when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bless us with a passion for His correction so we will be “wise” in this life and the life to come.
Next time Solomon says, “a good man obtains favor of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
