Dealing With a Slack Hand - Proverbs 10:4

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casts away the substance of the wicked”, and in chapter ten and verse four of Proverbs Solomon said, “he becomes poor that deals with a slack hand” where we read,

He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

The verse begins, “He becomes poor that deals with a slack hand: Solomon began with the words, “he becomes poor” or “the person whether male or female lacks, hungers and is impoverished” that deals which means “who fashions, accomplishes, makes and produces” “with a slack hand” or “by the use of a false, deceitful and treacherous palm, sole and hollow of the physical hand”. Solomon shared how the person who is lazy and deceitful becomes hungry and impoverished.

The verse continues, “but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Solomon added the words, “but the hand” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the palm, sole and hollow of the physical hand” “of the diligent” which means “belonging to the sharp-pointed, eager and determined” “makes rich” or “causes one to become wealthy and enriched”. Solomon said the person who employs their physical “hand” in a eager and determined manner will become wealthy and enriched.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon contrasted the person who is “lazy” with the person who is eager and determined. The first makes a person “poor”, and the second makes a person “rich”. Although not everyone is “rich” in this world's goods, they may be “rich” toward God because of their obedience to Him. God loves us, and He wants us to have a valuable personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be “diligent” while avoiding being “slack” in everything we do.

Next time Solomon says, “he that gathers in summer is a wise son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
