Prolonged Days - Proverbs 10:27

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “the fear of the LORD prolongs days” where we read,

The fear of the LORD prolongs days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

The verse begins, “The fear of the LORD prolongs days:” Solomon began with the words, “the fear of the LORD” or “respect, awe and reverence pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “prolongs days” which means “adds, increases and continues sunrises to sunsets or time periods”. Solomon shared how reverence and awe of Jehovah God causes a person to have more time in existence.

The verse continues, “but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.” Solomon added the words, “but the years” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the divisions of time and whole ages” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “shall be shortened” or “will exist as vexed, grieved and curtailed”. Solomon said the time periods of people who are evil and hostile to God will be vexed and curtailed.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how to have long or short life. When we yield our lives to God through His Son Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause our lives to be extended to His full purpose and time for our existence on earth and into eternity.
