Lips of Understanding - Proverbs 10:13

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “hatred stirs up strifes: but love covers all sins”, and in chapter ten and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “in the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found” where we read,

In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found:

but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

The verse begins, “In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found: Solomon began with the words, “in the lips” or “within the physical lips used for language and speech” of him that has understanding which means “belonging to the person whether male or female who holds, owns and possesses discernment, perception and knowledge” “wisdom is found” or “skill, shrewdness and prudence exists as secured, acquired, encountered and detected”. Solomon shared how skill and shrewdness is discovered the “lips” of people who have knowledge and perception.

The verse goes on to say, “but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.” Solomon continued with the words, “but a rod” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a staff, branch, club or scepter” “is for the back of him” which means “exists on behalf of the backside of the person whether male or female” “that is void of understanding” or “who is in need, lacking and in want of knowledge and perception”. Solomon said a club or scepter was in place for the backside of the person who is lacking in knowledge and perception.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about the contrast between the skill and prudence which is found in a person who uses their knowledgable “lips” and the person whose backside is in place for correction because they are lacking in knowledge and perception. God wants us to acquire His wise ways, and He provided knowledge so His “wisdom” will be discovered in what we say. Rather than having our backsides disciplined for lack of knowledge, let us submit ourselves to Jehovah God who sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and fill us with His “knowledge and understanding” through His Holy Spirit.

Next time Solomon says, “wise men lay up knowledge”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
