Let the Simple Turn in Here - Proverbs 9:16

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knows nothing. For she sits at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, to call passengers who go right on their ways:”, and in chapter nine and verse sixteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “whosoever is simple, let him turn in here” where we read,

Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here: and as for him that wants understanding, she says to him,

The verse begins, “Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here: Solomon began with the words, “whosoever is simple” or “ whatever person whether male or female who exists as naive and foolish”, let him turn in here which means “allow and permit him, the simple person, to enter and go in to the foolish woman's dwelling place”. Solomon said if a person is naive and foolish, they will enter into the “foolish woman's” house.

The verse continues, “and as for him that wants understanding, she says to him,” Solomon added the words, “and as for him that wants understanding” or “and for the person who is in need, lacking and destitute of heart, wisdom and care”, “she says to him” which means “she, the foolish woman, utters, declares and proclaims to him, the simple person” the words in our next verse. Solomon said the person who lacks in wisdom and care is told the words in our next verse.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are foolish and naive enter into the “foolish woman's” house, and for the person who is lacking and destitute of heart and wisdom, she proclaims the words in our next verse. Suffice it for now to heed the beginning of Solomon's words – do not enter or “turn in” to the “foolish woman's” home. God knows we are prone to sin, and His warnings against submitting to them are to be heeded. He gave His Son Jesus to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from being “simple-minded” and naive to the invitations of wicked people.

Next time Solomon says, “stolen waters are sweet”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
