Diligently Seeking Good - Proverbs 11:27

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that withholds corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that sells it, and in chapter eleven and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that diligently seeks good procures favor” where we read,

He that diligently seeks good procures favor: but he that seeks mischief, it shall come unto him.

The verse begins, He that diligently seeks good procures favor: Solomon began with the words, “he that diligently seeks good” or “the person whether male or female who earnestly, painstakingly and early looks for pleasantness, agreeableness, excellence and value in estimation” procures favor which means “seeks, requires, desires and requests delight, goodwill and acceptance”. Solomon shared how the person who earnestly looks for that which is pleasant and agreeable actually desires delight and acceptance for themselves.

The verse continues, “but he that seeks mischief, it shall come unto him.” Solomon added the words, “but he that seeks mischief” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person whether male or female who looks for wickedness, affliction, ill favor, harm and grievousness”, “it shall come unto him” which means “will enter, light upon and attack the person who seeks mischief with wickedness, affliction, ill favor and harm”. Solomon said the person who looks for wickedness and affliction will discover it within their own life.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how there is a distinct advantage to the people who earnestly look for that which is pleasant and agreeable and those who look for wickedness and harm. Each of these shall “reap what they have sown” (See 2 Corinthians 9:6; Galatians 6:7), and if they look for “good”, they will reap “good”. If they search for wickedness and evil, they will reap of the same. God wants us to “seek” Him with all our hearts (See Matthew 6:33), and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit who shall teach us the value of “seeking good” and never looking for evil and wickedness.

Next time Solomon says, “he that trusts in his riches shall fall”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
