In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them”, and in chapter eleven and verse four of Proverbs Solomon said, “riches profit not in the day of wrath” where we read,
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.
The verse begins, “Riches profit not in the day of wrath:” Solomon began with the words, “riches profit not” or “wealth, substance and high value do not benefit or avail a person” “in the day of wrath” which means “within the time period belonging to the outpouring, overflow, excess, anger, arrogance and outburst”. Solomon shared how the wealth and substance of a person does not provide an advantage to people within the time period of excess and anger.
The verse goes on to say, “but righteousness delivers from death.” Solomon continued with the words, “but righteousness” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover justice, rule, salvation and prosperity” “delivers from death” which means “rescues, saves and snatches a person away and separate from the pestilence, ruin and dying”. Solomon said being just, right, correct and lawful rescues and saves a person from ruin and dying.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how “wealth” has little value within a time period of excessive wrath and outburst, however, being right, correct and lawful rescues a person from ruin and dying. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins and to deliver us from His wrath that will be poured out upon people who refuse and reject Him. (See Matthew 16:26; Luke 12:20). No amount of wealth, riches nor substance will deliver a person in that day, and only when we yield our lives to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord” will He forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of depending upon His “righteousness” rather than “riches” that cannot deliver us from ruin, destruction and eternal death.
Next time Solomon says, “the righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
