In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He loves transgression that loves strife: and he that exalts his gate seeks destruction”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that has a froward heart finds no good” where we read,
He that has a froward heart finds no good: and he that has a perverse tongue falls into mischief.
The verse begins, “He that has a froward heart finds no good:” Solomon began with the words, “he that has a froward heart” or “the person who possesses a distorted, crooked and perverse soul, mind, will, desire, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “finds no good” which means “attains, secures, gets and acquires not any pleasantness, agreeableness, excellence and value”. Solomon shared how the person who possesses a fraudulent and distorted soul, mind and will does not acquire any pleasantness or value.
The verse goes on to say, “and he that has a perverse tongue falls into mischief.” Solomon continued with the words, “and he that has a perverse tongue” or “and the person who owns, possesses and holds a contrary, negative and obstinate wedge in the mouth used for speaking” “falls into mischief” which means “is prostrate, wasted away and cast into hurt, wickedness, ill, adversity and grievousness”. Solomon said the person who possesses an obstinate and negative “tongue” used for speaking is cast into wickedness and adversity.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that a person who possesses a fraudulent soul does not discover pleasantness, and the person who has an obstinate way of speaking descends into adversity and grievousness. This is not God's desire for us. God wants to save us from our sins, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from the fraudulent “heart” and the “perverse tongue” that is absent of pleasantness and continually brings adversity within our lives.
Next time Solomon says, “he that begets a fool does it to his sorrow”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
