In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife”, and in chapter seventeen and verse two of Proverbs Solomon said, “a wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame” where we read,
A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame,
and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
The verse begins, “A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, ...” Solomon began with the words, “a wise servant” or “a skillful, shrewd and prudent bondman, man of servile condition or slave” “shall have rule” which means “will reign and exercise dominion and governance” “over a son” or “over a male child or grandchild” “that causes shame” which means “who produces disconcertedness, disappointment and confoundedness”. Solomon shared how a skillful and prudent bondman will govern over a male child who produces disappointment and embarrassment.
The verse goes on to say, “... and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.” Solomon continued with the words, “and shall have part” or “and will divide, share, allot and be assigned a portion or division” “of the inheritance” which means “pertaining to the possession, property and heritage” “among the brethren” or “in the midst and middle of the relatives, kinship and tribe”. Solomon said the shrewd and skillful bondman would possess a portion of the property and heritage alongside the relatives and kinsmen.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that skillful and shrewd people of servile condition will partake of the inheritance of a family when they govern over a male offspring that brings embarrassment and disappointment. God wants everyone to inherit eternal life with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the ability to “rule with authority” over people and circumstances within His Kingdom. Those who “rule” well will not only inherit eternal life with Him, but they shall also gain abundant supplies along the way.
Next time Solomon says, “the LORD tries the heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
