In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increases learning”, and in chapter sixteen and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “understanding is a wellspring of life” where we read,
Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
The verse begins, “Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it:” Solomon began with the word, “understanding” or “prudence, insight and good sense” “is a wellspring of life” which means “exists as a fountain, flow or source pertaining to active, fresh and lively living” “unto him that has it” or “toward the person whether male or female who holds, owns and possesses understanding”. Solomon said insight and good sense exists as a fountain of fresh and active living to the person who possesses it.
The verse continues, “but the instruction of fools is folly.” Solomon added the words, “but the instruction of fools” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the discipline, chastening and correction belonging to people who are quarrelsome, licentious and despise wisdom” “is folly” which means “exists as silliness and foolishness”. Solomon said the discipline and correction belonging to licentious and quarrelsome people exist as silly and foolish.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how insight and good sense are like a fountain for active living to people who possess it, however the discipline of quarrelsome people is silly and foolish. God wants us to be wise and filled with His knowledge. He desires a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and cause us to avoid the “instruction of fools” and cling to His “understanding” that gives us life.
Next time Solomon says, “the heart of the wise teaches his mouth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
