In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness”, and in chapter fifteen and verse fifteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “all the days of the afflicted are evil” where we read,
All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart has a continual feast.
The verse begins, “All the days of the afflicted are evil:” Solomon began with the words, “All the days” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the sunrises to sunsets” “of the afflicted” which means “belonging to people who are poor, humble, wretched, needy and weak” “are evil” or “exist as bad, disagreeable, displeasing, unhappy and miserable”. Solomon shared how every one of the sunrises to sunsets belonging to people who are wretched and needy exist as unhappy and miserable.
The verse continues, “but he that is of a merry heart has a continual feast.” Solomon added the words, “but he that is of a merry heart” or “however, notwithstanding, nonetheless and moreover the person whether male or female who exists with a good, pleasant, agreeable and becoming soul, mind, will, desire, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “has a continual feast” which means “holds, owns and possesses a stretched out, perpetual and constant banquet”. Solomon said the person who lives with a pleasant and agreeable soul, mind and will possesses a constant banquet in their life.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we see how each day people who are weak and needy exist with misery and unhappiness, however, people who have joyful and pleasant souls and minds enjoy a constant banquet within their lives. God wants us to savor our lives, and when we receive His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us a joyful soul that “feasts” with merriment every day regardless of the circumstances and situations that arise.
Next time Solomon says, “better is little with the fear of the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
