In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “a scorner loves not one that reproves him” where we read,
A scorner loves not one that reproves him: neither will he go unto the wise.
The verse begins, “A scorner loves not one that reproves him:” Solomon began with the words, “a scorner” or “an arrogant, boastful, mocking and deriding person” “loves not one that reproves him” which means “does not have human appetite, affection and fondness for the person who judges, corrects, convicts and rebukes him, the scorner”. Solomon shared how a person who is arrogant and boastful in no way has affection for the person who convicts and corrects them.
The verse goes on to say, “neither will he go unto the wise.” Solomon continued with the words, “neither will he go” or “no and not in any way shall he, the scorner, leave, depart and go forth” “unto the wise” which means “to people who are skillful, shrewd and prudent”. Solomon said the scorner will in no way depart to people who are shrewd and skillful.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see through Solomon how a person who is resistant to correction and discipline detests the person who provides it. Rather than receiving the rebuke and conviction of someone who corrects him, the “scorner” avoids people who are wise. God has more wisdom than anyone, and He offers His wisdom to every person who comes to Him through His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of listening and adhering to good counsel and never detesting the instrument He uses to correct us.
Next time Solomon says, “a merry heart makes a cheerful countenance”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
