Rewarding Evil for Good - Proverbs 17:13

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly, and in chapter seventeen and verse thirteen of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “whoso rewards evil for good” where we read,

Whoso rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

The verse begins, “Whoso rewards evil for good, ...Solomon began with the words, “whoso rewards evil” or “whatever person whether male or female who returns, gives back and repays bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, pain and misery” “for good” which means “instead and in place of pleasantness, agreeableness, excellence and value” will inherit the following. Solomon said whatever person repays malignancy and pain in place of pleasantness and value will receive the following.

The verse continues, “... evil shall not depart from his house.” Solomon added the words, “evil shall not depart” or “bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, pain and misery will in no way or manner leave, be removed or go forth” “from his house” which means “separate and be apart from the person's dwelling place, habitation and abode”. Solomon said malignancy, pain and misery would not be removed from the person's home who repays bad for excellence and value.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how reciprocation and consequences exist for people who return wickedness for pleasantness. God is aware when people offer “good” to others and their offerings are met with malignancy and pain. God loves people, and because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and acknowledge every “evil” act that is rewarded to us when we grant pleasantness and excellence to others.

Next time Solomon says, “the beginning of strife is when one lets out water”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
