In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A wrathful man stirs up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeases strife”, and in chapter fifteen and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns” where we read,
The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.
The verse begins, “The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns:” Solomon began with the words, “the way” or “the traveled road, journey, manner and habit” “of the slothful man” which means “belonging to the lazy, sluggard and indolent person whether male or female” “is as an hedge of thorns” or “exists as a fence, security or protection containing prickly plants or briers”. Solomon shared how the manner and habit of lazy people exist as a fence of security constructed with prickly briers.
The verse continues, “but the way of the righteous is made plain.” Solomon added the words, “but the way of the righteous” or “however, notwithstanding, nonetheless and moreover the traveled road, journey, manner and habit belonging to the people who are just, right, lawful and correct” “is made plain” which means “is exalted, esteemed and highly prized”. Solomon said people who are just, right and correct conduct their lives in a manner that is exalted and highly prized.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that there is a difference in the life of the person who is “lazy” and the person who is lawful and just. God wants us to live according to His lawful and correct manner, and He knew we would violate His “way”. This is sin, and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit to have a life that is exalted as we live according to His Divine way.
Next time Solomon says, “a wise son makes a glad father”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
