Sowing Strife - Proverbs 16:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “an ungodly man digs up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire, and in chapter sixteen and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “a froward man sows strife” where we read,

A froward man sows strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends.

The verse begins, A froward man sows strife:Solomon began with the words, “a froward man” or “a person who is perverse and fraudulent” “sows strife” which means “scatters, spreads, impels and sets free contention, discord and brawling”. Solomon said a person who is perverse and fraudulent spreads and scatters contention and discord.

The verse continues, “and a whisperer separates chief friends .” Solomon added the words, “and a whisperer” or “and a murmurer, backbiter or talebearer” “separates chief friends” which means “divides and breaks apart tame, docile and intimate guides, governors, captains and companions”. Solomon said a person who is a murmurer and talebearer breaks apart and divides intimate guides and companions.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how a person who is perverse and fraudulent scatters discord and brawling, and the person who is a murmurer and talebearer causes intimate companions and “friends” to be separated. These works follow the work of Satan who desires to separate people from a personal relationship with God through sin. This is the reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from being like the “froward” person and the person who “whispers” and breaks apart intimate friends.

Next time Solomon says, “a violent man entices his neighbor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
