A Wrathful Man Stirring Up Strife - Proverbs 15:18

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith”, and in chapter fifteen and verse eighteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “a wrathful man stirs up strife” where we read,

A wrathful man stirs up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

The verse begins, “A wrathful man stirs up strife:” Solomon began with the words, “a wrathful man” or “a heated, fevered, venom filled, angry and poisonous person whether male or female” “stirs up strife” which means “causes, raises and excites contention, meddling and war”. Solomon shared how a person who is fevered with anger and venom causes contention, fighting and war.

The verse goes on to say, “but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that is slow to anger” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person whether male or female who exists as drawn out, long-suffering and patient toward wrath and ire that wrinkles the nose or nostrils” “appeases strife” which means “quiets, calms and brings to rest contention, meddling and war”. Solomon said the person who is patient and long-suffering toward wrath brings quiet and calm to contention, fighting and war.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we discover the difference between a person who is exceedingly angry causing contention and war and the person who is patient toward wrath whose calm brings quiet to fighting. God wants us to have His peace and calm in our dispositions and life, and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide tranquility whereby not only we, but others also, will be “appeased” in their contentions and wars.

Next time Solomon says, “the way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
