A Divine Sentence - Proverbs 16:10

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A man's heart devises his way: but the LORD directs his steps, and in chapter sixteen and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “a divine sentence is in the lips of the king” where we read,

A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresses not in judgment.

The verse begins, A divine sentence is in the lips of the king:Solomon began with the words, “a divine sentence” or “an oracle or divination” “is in the lips” which means “exists within the lips used for speaking” “of the king” or “belonging to the royal ruler”. Solomon shared how the royal ruler possesses a “divine” wisdom when they make a judicial decision.

The verse continues, “his mouth transgresses not in judgment.” Solomon added the words, “his mouth transgresses not” or “the king's orifice in the face used for drinking, eating and speaking does not in any way act unfaithfully, treacherously or covertly” “in judgment” which means “within justice, ordinance, procedure, case, cause or litigation”. Solomon the royal ruler who speaks does not do so without procedure and litigation.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how the royal ruler employs wisdom when they make a decision, and they do not us their “mouth” to act treacherously, unfaithfully and unfair in their ordinances. God gives people positions of authority and judgment as royal rulers, (See Daniel 2:21) and when they rely upon His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will put within their voices a just and right decision. The forgiveness of sins, granting of eternal life and speaking correctly in “judgment” is given to soul and mind of a leader when they put their faith and trust in Him.

Next time Solomon says, “a just weight and balance are the LORD's”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
