In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A wicked doer gives heed to false lips; and a liar gives ear to a naughty tongue”, and in chapter seventeen and verse five of Proverbs Solomon said, “whoso mocks the poor reproaches his Maker” where we read,
Whoso mocks the poor reproaches his Maker:
and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
The verse begins, “Whoso mocks the poor reproaches his Maker:” Solomon began with the words, “whoso mocks the poor” or “whatever person whether male or female that derides, ridicules and stammers against people who are impoverished, lacking, in want and in hunger” “reproaches his Maker” which means “taunts, blasphemes, defies, upbraids and rails against the the one who fashioned, prepared, attended to and appointed them”. Solomon shared how the person who taunts and ridicules people who are impoverished and in want defy and rail against their creator.
The verse continues, “and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.” Solomon added the words, “and he that is glad” or “and the person whether male or female who is joyful, merry and rejoicing” “at calamities” which means “at distresses, burdens and disasters” “shall not be unpunished” or “will not in any way exist as pure, clean, purged, innocent or exempt from obligation”. Solomon said the person who is joyful and merry over distresses and disasters will not escape or be exempt from obligation and purging.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a person who ridicules and derides impoverished and needy people actually taunt and blaspheme their Creator God, and when they are happy and joyful because disasters occur, they will in no way escape obligation and purging. God cares for people, and He is concerned for people who are “poor” and in need. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of helping those in need and being actively concerned when disasters occur.
Next time Solomon says, “children's children are the crown of old men”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
