In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished”, and in chapter sixteen and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “by mercy and truth iniquity is purged” where we read,
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
The verse begins, “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged:” Solomon began with the words, “by mercy” or “through the means of goodness, kindness and faithfulness” “and truth” which means “and firmness, sureness, reliability, stability and continuance” “iniquity is purged” or “perversity, depravity, guilt and consequence exists as covered, atoned and reconciled”. Solomon shared how perversity and depravity is reconciled and atoned through the means of goodness, kindness, firmness and stability.
The verse continues, “and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” Solomon added the words, “and by the fear” or “and through the means of awe, respect and reverence” “of the LORD” which means “pertaining to Jehovah who is the exiting One and the proper name for the One True God” “men depart from evil” or “people whether male or female turn aside from, avoid, leave and separate from bad, disagreeableness, malignancy and unpleasantness”. Solomon said through the means of awe and respect to Jehovah God people leave malignancy and bad.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how perversity and depravity are extinguished. God is a God of “mercy and truth”, (See Romans 2:4) and when we receive His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the value of having reverence toward Him so all wickedness and malignancy is removed from us.
Next time Solomon shares what happens, “when a man's ways please the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
