The Wrath of a King - Proverbs 16:14

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaks right, and in chapter sixteen and verse fourteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the wrath of a king is as messengers of death” where we read,

The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

The verse begins, The wrath of a king is as messengers of death:Solomon began with the words, “the wrath of a king” or “the heat, rage, hot displeasure, indignation and anger belonging to a royal ruler or leader” “is as messengers” which means “exists similar and in likeness to angels or envoys” “of death” or “belonging to pestilence, ruin and dying”. Solomon shared how the anger belonging to a royal ruler is like envoys of deadly threats.

The verse continues, “but a wise man will pacify it.” Solomon added the words, “but a wise man” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a skillful, shrewd and prudent person whether male or female” “will pacify it” which means “shall purge, make atonement for, reconcile and cover the wrath of the king”. Solomon said a person who is skillful and shrewd will purge and reconcile the “wrath of a king”.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we see how there is power in the anger of a royal ruler, and people who are shrewd and skillful will seek to reconcile and atone for it. God sets up rulers and He takes them down, (See Daniel 2:21) and He uses them to perform His will. God loves people, and although He uses leaders to rule over them, He is the ultimate ruler and judge. When we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be “wise” to purge and ease the anger of our rulers and authorities.

Next time Solomon says, “in the light of the king's countenance is life”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
