Wisdom to Him that Has Understanding - Proverbs 17:24

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a wicked man takes a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “wisdom is before him that has understanding” where we read,

Wisdom is before him that has understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

The verse begins, Wisdom is before him that has understanding;Solomon began with the words, “wisdom is before him” or “skill, shrewdness and prudence exists in front and in the presence of the person whether male or female” “that has understanding” which means “who holds, owns and possesses knowledge, discernment, insight and discretion”. Solomon shared how shrewdness and skill precede the person who possesses discernment and insight.

The verse goes on to say, “but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the eyes” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the physical eyes used for vision, seeing and mental and spiritual faculties” “of a fool” which means “belonging to a person who is a dullard, simpleton and stupid fellow” “are in the ends” or “exist within the extremity, border and outskirts” “of the earth” which means “belonging to the country, region, territory and world”. Solomon said the “eyes” of a simpleton and dullard wander to the extremities of the world.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how the person who is discerning continually desires insight and discretion, however, the person who is “foolish” looks throughout the world for answers. The idea is to keep the “wisdom” of God in the forefront of our thoughts and passions. God loves us, and His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to seek His skill and shrewdness and to leave the simpletons to wander throughout the world for answers.

Next time Solomon says, “a foolish son is a grief to his father”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
