Joy By the Answer of His Mouth - Proverbs 15:23

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “a man has joy by the answer of his mouth” where we read,

A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

The verse begins, “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth:” Solomon began with the words, “a man has joy” or “a person whether male or female who holds, owns and possesses mirth, gladness, gaiety, pleasure and happy issue” “by the answer” which means “through the means of the response, reply and guidance” “of his mouth” or “pertaining to his, the person's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking”. Solomon shared how a person possesses gladness and gaiety through the means of the response of their mouth.

The verse continues, “and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!” Solomon added the words, “and a word spoken” or “and a speech, utterance and proclamation declared” “in due season” which means “ continually, within a certain time and clearly”, “how good is it” or “what pleasure, agreeableness, excellence and value has the word spoken”. Solomon said a statement declared at an appropriate and perfect time exists as an excellent and valuable utterance.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how a person possesses happiness and gladness with their spoken words, and it is considered a pleasure and excellent to those who use their “words” in a timely manner. God wants us to use our “words” in wise ways, and when we do, we shall receive “joy” for doing so. God loves us, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to employ our words in a timely manner with “joy” as we live before Him and others.

Next time Solomon says, “the way of life is above to the wise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
