In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that labors labors for himself; for his mouth craves it of him”, and in chapter sixteen and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “an ungodly man digs up evil” where we read,
An ungodly man digs up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.
The verse begins, “An ungodly man digs up evil:” Solomon began with the words, “an ungodly man” or “a worthless, good for nothing, unprofitable and base person whether male or female” “digs up evil” which means “excavates, feasts upon, trades and buys bad, unpleasantness, displeasure and malignancy”. Solomon shared how a person who is worthless and good for nothing feasts upon and buys up wickedness and displeasure.
The verse goes on to say, “and in his lips there is as a burning fire.” Solomon continued with the words, “and in his lips” or “and within the person whether male or female's physical lips” “there is a burning fire” which means “exists a scorching conflagration, inflammation and disease”. Solomon said within the physical lips of “an ungodly person” exists a scorching conflagration and disease.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are worthless and good for nothing not only feast upon wickedness, but their physical lips or speeches are also filled with scorching disease. This is not God's desire for people, and because we are prone to wickedness, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us from “ungodly evil” and “lips” that are filled with scorching disease.
Next time Solomon says, “a froward man sows strife”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
