The Crown of Old Men - Proverbs 17:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Whoso mocks the poor reproaches his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished, and in chapter seventeen and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “children's children are the crown of old men” where we read,

Children's children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.

The verse begins, Children's children are the crown of old men:Solomon began with the words, “children's children” or “grandchildren” “are the crown” which means “exists as the wreath of honor and splendor” “of old men” or “belonging to male human beings who are ancient, senor and aged”. Solomon shared how grandchildren exist as the wreath of honor and splendor to “men” who are senor and aged.

The verse goes on to say, “and the glory of children are their fathers.” Solomon continued with the words, “and the glory of children” or “and the beauty, splendor, rank and renown belonging to offspring and progeny” “are their fathers” which means “exists as their, the children's, immediate male ancestors and progenitors”. Solomon said the splendor of offspring is their male progenitors.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how grandchildren are the wreath of honor to “men” who have aged, and in contrast, “fathers” exists as the splendor to their “children”. God loves people, and when we live according to His plans and ways, our grandchildren will be a reward when we are older. Our lives will be honorable to our children as we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins when they align themselves with Him as well. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us how to live in a manner that our grandchildren will be our honor and our children will consider us as a splendor in their lives.

Next time Solomon says, “excellent speech becomes not a fool”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
