In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loves him that follows after righteousness”, and in chapter fifteen and verse ten of Proverbs Solomon said, “correction is grievous unto him that forsakes the way” where we read,
Correction is grievous unto him that forsakes the way: and he that hates reproof shall die.
The verse begins, “Correction is grievous unto him that forsakes the way:” Solomon began with the words, “correction is grievous” or “rebuke, reproof, discipline and chastening exists as bad, disagreeable, malignant, unpleasant and evil” “unto him” which means “toward the person whether male or female” “that forsakes the way” or “who leaves, departs from and abandons the path, road and manner of living that is right and correct”. Solomon shared how discipline and correction exist as disagreeable and unpleasant to the people who depart from the right and correct way to live.
The verse continues, “and he that hates reproof shall die.” Solomon added the words, “and he that hates reproof” or “and the person whether male or female who is odious to and as an enemy or foe to rebuke, correction, chastisement and impeachment” “shall die” which means “will perish, be killed or caused to decease”. Solomon said the person who is as an enemy to rebuke and correction will perish.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how a person who hates to be disciplined abandons God's correct and right way to live, and the person who is odious to correction will suffer destruction and death. God provided His law for the benefit of every person, and when we obey Him and His correction, we thrive. If, however, we act as a foe to His right way to live, we pay the price of ruin and destruction because of it. (See John 10:10) God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and correct us according to His Divine purposes and plans.
Next time Solomon says, “hell and destruction are before the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
