Little with the Fear of the LORD - Proverbs 15:16

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart has a continual feast”, and in chapter fifteen and verse sixteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “better is little with the fear of the LORD” where we read,

Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

The verse begins, “Better is little with the fear of the LORD ...” Solomon began with the words, “better is little” or “good, pleasant, agreeable and excellent exists few and small worth” “with the fear” which means “having the terror, awe, reverence and respect” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”. Solomon shared how it is more excellent to have small possessions with reverence and awe toward Jehovah God than the following.

The verse goes on to say, “... than great treasure and trouble therewith.” Solomon continued with the words, “than great treasure” or “compared to much, numerous and abundant storehouses, supplies, magazines, armories and garners” “and trouble therewith” which means “and tumult, confusion, disturbance, turmoil, disquietude, panic and discomfiture along with the treasure”. Solomon said owning a small amount of things revering Jehovah God is “better than” massive and abundant supplies that are accompanied with turmoil and panic.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how the small amount of possessions belonging to a person who reverences Jehovah God is “better than” abundant supplies that are accompanied with turmoil. God knows the result of having possessions, and when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us the tremendous value that is found in giving reverence and awe to Him regardless of the amount of possessions we own.

Next time Solomon says, “better is a dinner of herbs where love is”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
