In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the light of the eyes rejoices the heart: and a good report makes the bones fat”, and in chapter fifteen and verse thirty-one of Proverbs Solomon shared about, “the ear that hears the reproof of life” where we read,
The ear that hears the reproof of life abides among the wise.
The verse begins, “The ear that hears the reproof of life ...” Solomon began with the words, “the ear” or “the physical ear or organ for hearing” “hears the reproof” which means “listens to, obeys, understands and gives heed to rebuke, correction, punishment and chastisement” “of life” or “pertaining to fresh, active and lively living”. Solomon shared how the physical ear used for hearing gives heed and obedience to rebuke and correction.
The verse continues, “... abides among the wise.” Solomon added the word, “abides” or “lodges, remains and dwells” “among the wise” which means “within the midst, inner part and middle portion belonging to people who are skilled, shrewd and prudent”. Solomon said the person who listens to correction and discipline dwells in the midst of people who are skillful, shrewd and prudent.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that a person who lives among skillful and prudent people listen to correction and discipline. God loves us, and His commandments are for our good. When we live according to His ways, we fulfill His purpose and plan for our lives. Because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit as we hearken and listen to what He has to say.
Next time Solomon shares about, “he that refuses instruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
