In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A man has joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “the way of life is above to the wise” where we read,
The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
The verse begins, “The way of life is above to the wise, ...” Solomon began with the words, “the way of life” or “the path, manner and traveled road pertaining to fresh, active and lively living” “is above to the wise” which means “exists as exceedingly higher and on top to people who are skillful, shrewd and prudent”. Solomon said the traveled road of active living of people who are skillful and shrewd is exceedingly higher for the following purpose.
The verse goes on to say, “... that he may depart from hell beneath.” Solomon continued with the words, “that he may depart” or “so he, the person whether male or female, might leave and separate themself” “from hell beneath” which means “apart from sheol, the underworld, the abode of the dead and the place of no return which is located in a downward direction”. Solomon said the exceedingly higher active traveled road of people who are shrewd and prudent causes them to be separated from the abode of the dead down below.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a place “above” and there is a place “beneath”. Heaven and Hell are those places, and in order for people to live with God in Heaven above, sin needs to be removed from their lives. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit how to live a “wise” life that will not only allow us to live exceedingly above, but also help us to escape the eternal separation from God below.
Next time Solomon says, “the LORD will destroy the house of the proud”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
