In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish does not so”, and in chapter fifteen and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination” where we read,
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
The verse begins, “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD:” Solomon began with the words, “the sacrifice” or “the thank offering or slaughters” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God” “is an abomination” or “exists as disgusting and idolatrous” “to the LORD” which means “toward Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon shared how even the offerings and sacrifices of people who are evil and hostile to Him are disgusting and idolatrous.
The verse continues, “but the prayer of the upright is his delight.” Solomon added the words, “but the prayer” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the intercession and supplication” “of the upright” which means “belonging to people who are straight, right, correct and pleasing” “is his delight” or “exist as his, Jehovah God's, pleasure, favor, acceptance and goodwill”. Solomon said Jehovah God takes pleasure when people who are right, correct and pleasing to make intercession to Him.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how even the offerings made by people who are evil and hostile to Jehovah God are disgusting to Him. On the other hand, when people who are pleasing to God “pray”, He takes pleasure in them. God loves people, and His desire is to have an intimate relationship with every person. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the price of death for all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to make delightful supplications unto Him.
Next time Solomon says, “the way of the wicked is an abomination”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
