In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “when a man's ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him”, and in chapter sixteen and verse eight of Proverbs Solomon said, “better is a little with righteousness” where we read,
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
The verse begins, “Better is a little with righteousness ...” Solomon began with the words, “better is a little” or “good, pleasant, agreeable and more excellent exists a few and small amount” “with righteousness” which means “which accompanies that which is right, just, correct and lawful” than the following. Solomon shared how possessing a small amount of resources while being right, just and lawful exceeds that of having the following.
The verse continues, “... than great revenues without right.” Solomon added the words, “than great revenues” or “compared to a multitude, abundant amount and numerous products, produce, yields and crops ” “without right” which means “not having any justice, ordinance, procedure, litigation, sentence or execution”. Solomon said “a little with righteousness” exceeds having abundant income while not having justice and litigation.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how possessing a small amount of material goods having God's lawful manner of living exceeds having a large amount and not living according to His right and just ways. God wants us to live in a “righteous” manner, and whether we have an abundance or few riches, we are in a “better” state with God when we live according to His ways. God loves us, and He owns everything. He decides the amounts that we will temporarily hold while we are on the earth, and there is no greater treasure than having His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to live in a “right” manner regardless of the amount of goods we possess.
Next time Solomon says, “a man's heart devises his way”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
