A Fool Despises His Father's Instruction - Proverbs 15:5

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit”, and in chapter fifteen and verse five of Proverbs Solomon said, “a fool despises his father's instruction” where we read,

A fool despises his father's instruction: but he that regards reproof is prudent.

The verse begins, “A fool despises his father's instruction:” Solomon began with the words, “a fool despises” or “a quarrelsome, mocking and perverse person whether male or female who spurns, contemns and abhors” “his father's instruction” which means “the discipline, chastening and correction of his, the person's, immediate male progenitor and ancestor”. Solomon shared how a person who abhors their “father's” discipline and chastening exists as quarrelsome and perverse.

The verse goes on to say, “but he that regards reproof is prudent.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that regards reproof” or “however, notwithstanding, nonetheless and moreover the person whether male or female who keeps, observes and gives heed to correction, chiding and rebuke” “is prudent” which means “exists as subtle, shrewd, crafty and aware”. Solomon said the person who gives observes and gives heed to correction exists as shrewd and aware.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how it is wise for a person to pay attention to the guidance and discipline of their parents. Children become quarrelsome and perverse when they do not listen to or obey them. God gives us authorities because He ultimately desires for us to give heed to Him. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting live and show us the value of listening to our “parents” and observing what He has to say.

Next time Solomon says, “in the house of the righteous is much treasure”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
