A Violent Man Entices His Neighbor - Proverbs 16:29

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a froward man sows strife: and a whisperer separates chief friends, and in chapter sixteen and verse twenty-nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “a violent man entices his neighbor” where we read,

A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him into the way that is not good.

The verse begins, A violent man entices his neighbor, ...Solomon began with the words, “a violent man” or “a cruel, wrong, unjust, damaging and false person whether male or female” “entices his neighbor” which means “flatters, allures, enlarges and deceives their intimate friend, companion and fellow-citizen”. Solomon said a person who is cruel and unjust allures and deceives their intimate friends and companions.

The verse goes on to say, “... and leads him into the way that is not good.” Solomon continued with the words, “and leads him” or “and walks, moves and causes the person whether male or female to go” “into the way” which means “into the traveled road, journey, manner and direction” “that is not good” or “which is in no way or merry, fair, prosperous, precious, favorable or fine”. Solomon said the “violent” person directs their intimate companion and friend into paths that are not prosperous and favorable.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are cruel and unjust flatter their intimate companions and friends while they guide them toward nefarious ways. God hates this, and He will save every person from this type of seduction who will yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. God loves us, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us away from the “violent man” and their deceptive leading toward paths that are unfavorable.

Next time Solomon says, “he shuts his eyes to devise froward things”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
